ALBERT EINSTEIN wrote a lot about the importance of mountain top living explaining that people who live on mountains are usually much healthier and thus live longer. Einstein explained that people who live on higher elevations see the sun longer, breathe cleaner air, and waste less time on chores and errands in the city. These same people are often more self-sufficient, as living far away from civilization means that it is not possible to “just run to the store” to fix a problem or cover an emergency. These same people are better at conserving personal energy than city folk, because there are so many more tasks to accomplish just for daily survival that it is ridiculous to make twelve trips to the grocery store just for one recipe. It is all these little trips and redundant tasks in air that is less than fresh that contribute to the aging process, and wear on the body.

In today’s world of cities with polluted air, people are choosing to relocate to the country, and if that were not enough, they are now choosing to live atop mountains to avoid the dirty air. Doctors have often prescribed “mountain living” for patients with breathing problems related to lung disease or asthma. The reason for this is the mountains are free from bumper-to-bumper traffic, which results in fuel pollution in the air within big cities.

Mountain living offers much more than just clean mountain air. It provides for a more peaceable, less-stressed life. Mountain dwellers often do plenty of walking and enjoy nature. They see nature first-hand day by day and are able to benefit from the natural therapy it brings after a stressful day on the job. Some studies have even shown that mountain residents are less likely to die of cardiac arrest. Many mountain dwellers report less aches and pains, and subsidence of allergies due to the cleaner air and higher altitude, as well as increased exposure to the sun and its life-enhancing energy.

If you’re tired of the busy city life and are ready for a change, maybe it is time to discover the many benefits of mountain living.

Have you always dreamed of seeing nature’s beauty every time you exit the front or back door of your home? Today, more and more families are moving to peaceful, secluded areas to gain access into this lifestyle. It’s easy to see why.

One place that offers residents of all ages a little bit of everything is the Bear Mountain resort and community in the town of Langford, 15 minutes north of Victoria. This mountain living boasts the best of both worlds: two Jack Nicklaus designed golf courses; panoramic views at every corner, world class spas and Wine Spectator awarded wine cellars as well as four amazing yet diverse restaurants. If heaven were the top of a mountain, this is what it would be like.
We had an opportunity to try a signature dish from each of the four incredible restaurants: Panache, the fine dining establishment; the Copper Rock Grill, more of a casual affair; Jack’s, a pub-style place, and Kuma Sushi, a sushi bar. There is also the option of The Cellar, an extremely intimate and private dining experience in the actual wine cellar. From the fine dining establishment Panache we enjoyed the BC side stripe Prawns, an Alaskan King Crab Croquette, with avocado puree and artichoke vinaigrette. The plate was meticulously presented, and the food fresh and delicious.

From the casual dining menu of The Copper Rock Grill we enjoyed a succulent piece of Snapper. From Jacks Place we devoured their Fairways Flat-iron steak sandwich, served open face on garlic bread with sauteed mushrooms and buffalo onion rings. The Japanese restaurant Kuma Sushi tantalized us with a BC salmon maki (roll). Wowie Mczowie!

Now that you now know a little bit more about mountain top living and Bear Mountain I’m sure that we have sparked your curiosity. We highly encourage you to visit this diverse resort and golf community.
